Thank you Allen. A very well written and comprehensive article. EIFS provide a very simple way for designers to meet the new energy codes, with a great cost benefit ratio, and unlimited design flexibility.

Allen, it is good to see a technical person endorsing EIFS and its use. There are still people who distrust it and your article may sway some of them.

Well done article. I was involved in a number of EFIS projects in the 80's and the problems with moisture entrapment were real. The redesigns of attachment and improved technology in air barrier and drainage plane designs have resulted in a successful transition of the industry. I enjoyed working with EIFS systems and would like to see the insurance industries fully embrace the systems again without exclusion.

I still find misunderstanding among architects and even contractors as to the differences between EIFS and one-coat stucco systems, especially around the issue of joints. People scared of EIFS yet perfectly willing to apply a thin coat of cement and color directly over wood studs & OSB.
