WEBINAR: Cool roofs, cool coatings: Energy efficiency when the heat is on

Presented by Andre Desjarlais, Group Leader, Building Envelopes Research, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Cool-roof technologies are having a significant impact on the market for low-slope roofing. Summertime temperatures on dark-colored roofs on a sunny day can reach 170 F, while highly reflective white roof surfaces could be 110 F on the same day-just slightly above the ambient temperature. This reflectivity can have a major effect on building cooling-energy demand.

With this webinar, we will review the impact that low-slope cool roofing and roof coatings can have on roof temperatures and energy demand, based on calculations determined in research programs conducted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We will review how cool roofs and cool-roof coatings function, and discuss the various types of cool roofing and cool-roof coatings that have been developed. Particular attention will be given to cool-roof coatings technologies already on the market, and to developments currently under way or anticipated.
