Sto Bows New Heat-Reflective Coating

Sto Corp. has introduced a new heat-reflective exterior wall coating that is available in 570 colors and can be applied on most cladding.

StoCoat X-black is a 100% acrylic resin system that reflects the sun’s near infrared light energy and lowers surface temperatures significantly compared to traditional paints of the same color, according to Sto.

StoCoat X-black helps to diffuse heat evenly across exterior walls to provide "passive" cooling, Sto says.

The coating boasts “superior fade resistance” even in dark colors and is recommended for deferred maintenance programs, the company says.

Features, Characteristics

Sto Coat X-black may be applied on most claddings, including concrete, EIFS, stucco, wood, brick, or pre-painted surfaces.

The product helps to diffuse heat evenly across the exterior wall to provide passive cooling, according to product literature.

StoCoat X-black is a low-VOC coating that meets the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency and the South Coast Air Quality Management District, the manufacturer says.

Atlanta-based Sto Corp. makes cladding, air barriers, coatings and restoration systems.
