The Polyurethane Foam Association has reported record membership growth of more than 30 percent in 2013.

The association says 63 companies are now members, representing the largest number since the group's founding 33 years ago.

Recent members include three new U.S. flexible polyurethane foam producers, eight new associate/supplier members, and four new federated members, officials announced Sept. 3.

Founded in 1980, the association represents manufacturers of open-cell flexible polyurethane foam as commonly used in upholstered furniture seating, mattresses, pillows and automotive interiors.

Founded in 1980, the association represents manufacturers of open-cell flexible polyurethane foam as commonly used in upholstered furniture seating, mattresses, pillows and automotive interiors.

The group’s mission is to educate customers and other groups about flexible polyurethane foam and to promote its use in manufactured and industrial products. It also aims to “find and achieve successful solutions to important issues of flammability and fire safety,” according to the organization’s website.

Global Growth

Companies in North and South America are contributing to the association’s growing membership, Joe Progar, PFA president and executive VP of Advanced Urethane Technologies, said in a statement.

Since announcing its new federated membership category in May 2013, the Polyurethane Foam Association has gained several new members from Canada and Brazil, and foam producers from other Panamerican countries are expected to join in the coming months, the group said.

Advocacy Focus

The association works as an advocacy group on behalf of the industry and provides educational technical bulletins, legal briefings, white papers, and position papers for members.

“PFA’s strategic work addressing legislative and regulatory threats is vital to our industry,” Progar said.

“PFA’s collective efforts strengthen our industry as a whole and better equip foam manufacturers to meet future opportunities and challenges.”
