New Powder Coating Steps into Light

Amsterdam's paint, coatings and chemical giant has launched a new ultra-reflective powder coating for lighting fixtures.

Developed by AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business, Interpon ReFlex can reportedly increase the effective output of commercial lighting fixtures by up to 30 percent, according to the company.

The coating is solvent-free and boasts a lower environmental impact than competing materials used in the lighting market, AkzoNobel says.

Additional key features include impact resistance and flexibility, as well as corrosion- and UV-resistance. The powder coating is also easy to apply, AkzoNobel relates.

“Interpon ReFlex is the latest example of the company's Planet Possible approach to innovation, which is focused on creating more value from fewer resources,” said Conrad Keijzer, executive committee member responsible for AkzoNobel’s Performance Coatings segment.

Due to be introduced globally throughout 2015, the product has already been used by major lighting manufacturers throughout North America, the company says.
