PPG Acquires Central American Stores

Pittsburgh--The world’s largest paint and coating maker has expanded its presence in the booming Latin American coatings market with the acquisition of a network of 57 paint stores.

PPG Industries Inc. announced the acquisition of Consorcio Latinoamericano Tuesday (June 2).

The deal boosts PPG's architectural paint and coatings operations in the growing market.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Paint Store Growth

Consorcio Latinoamericano operated as a concessionaire network for PPG-Comex, the company’s architectural paint and coatings business in Mexico and Central America.

PPG completed its $2.3 billion acquisition of Consorcio Comex in November 2014.

PPG purchased Mexico's largest paint manufacturer, Comex, for $2.3 billion in November 2014.

With the Consorcio Latinoamericano acquisition, the Pittsburgh-based manufacturer will now operate 87 company-owned stores across Belize; El Salvador; Guatemala; Honduras; Costa Rica; Nicaragua; and Panama.

The company says it will brand stores in Panama with the Glidden brand. PPG also plans to offer products from its protective and marine coatings business in stores throughout Central America.

Recent Deals

The deal is the latest is a series of global acquisitions by PPG. 

Recent moves include the acquisition of certain assets of Flood Australia, which manufactures and distributes specialty wood stain and paint additive solutions for consumer, commercial and industrial applications.

The company also recently acquired France's Revocoat, a global supplier of sealants, adhesives and damper products for the automotive industry.
