Color theory, the psychology of color and the perception of color are probably not topics one expects to encounter while visiting Epcot, part of Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

However, PPG's Glidden Paint is changing that. The company has unveiled a new exhibit, Colortopia, which sends park guests on a color journey.

The exhibit includes "The Color Lab," where guests can play color-inspired games.

“Starting with Disney’s premier full-color film in 1932, our company has been fascinated by color,” said Melissa Valiquette, vice president, Epcot.

“That fascination is evident throughout our parks and our resorts and is why we’re thrilled to collaborate with Glidden as we work together to bring Colortopia to life for our guests.”

3 Colorful Zones

The 3,700-square-foot exhibit is comprised of three interactive zones and is expected to take about 30 minutes to complete.

The zones are:

  • The Power of Color” is displayed in a special designed standing theater, where guests will view a short presentation that explores the psychology of color by immersing guests in a full spectrum of colors.
  • In “The Color Lab,” guests can play “Color Mix-n-Match,” an interactive game that allows guests to mix red, green and blue to create new colors. A second interactive game called “Spinning  Spectrums” teaches guests about the persistence of vision through painted spinning discs.
  • In “Color Our World,” guests can play with color shadows until they receive a magic paint brush to color large images displayed in the studio.

The color experiences extend beyond the exhibit, according to Glidden. Colortopia has a mobile app and website.

Glidden brand is a product line of PPG Architectural Coatings, a business unit of PPG Industries Inc., of Pittsburgh.
