BASF has developed two new pigments—an elegant gold and bold red-brown—billed to offer an antique look to interiors.

Firemist Velvet Gold and Firemist Velvet Russet complete the company’s Firemist Velvet series, which also includes pearl, bronze and copper pigments, the company announced Nov. 19.

The family of products offer decorative paint manufacturers “unique and warm design options with an aged effect and an attractive textured surface,” the company says.

The new pigments provide paint makers with design options for textured, warm surfaces.

When exposed to indirect lighting, the pigments appear matte while direct lighting produces a gentle sparkling effect, BASF reports.

The pigments work in paints that can be applied to concrete, wallpaper and wooden surfaces, the company adds.

In addition to interior paint applications, the pigments can also be used for the production of printing ink for designer packaging as well as wallpaper and surface coatings for metal and plastic.
