One of the nation’s oldest manufacturers of paint applicators is celebrating its 165th anniversary this year.

Wooster Brush Company founder Adam Foss began his business by handmaking paint brushes and selling them door-to-door in Wooster, OH, where the company's headquarters are still located.

Today the company has over 888,000 square feet of manufacturing, shipping, administrative, and warehousing facilities, according to the anniversary announcement.

Wooster History
Wooster Brush Company

Wooster Brush Company was founded in 1851 by Adam Foss. The company's current president is William S. Fagert.

Further, Wooster employs 550 people and produces more than 2,000 products for both professional painters and the DIY market.

The company is currently led by William S. Fagert, Wooster’s ninth president, according to the company’s website.

History of Innovation

The manufacturer boasts a number of innovations in the industry, including the invention of popular brush styles such as the angle sash. Wooster also says it was the first to introduce synthetic fabrics for roller covers, now an industry standard.

Wooster continues to focus on innovative design, adding some 200 new products to its catalog since 2011, the company reports. A few recent examples include the Lock Jaw tool holder and the Sherlock Bucket Tray paint container.

Changes in the coatings market have also driven improvement and originality in Wooster’s offerings. The company says it has developed new rollers and brushes to produce best results with today’s paint formulations.
