Flooring in educational and healthcare facilities are high traffic and often have extended hours of operation. Today’s webinar will discuss the unique considerations for coatings in these applications.

Participants can earn AIA-sanctioned Learning Units for attending.

Learning Objectives

Institutional facilities have some unique characteristics to consider when selecting and specifying floor finishes. These buildings generally handle high traffic and have extended hours of operation.

This webinar will:

  • Review flooring performance, aesthetics and cost impact associated with specific areas in the healthcare and educational facilities;
  • Discuss the benefits and limitations of concrete staining/dying, polished concrete, thin-film coatings, high-build resinous flooring and thin-set terrazzo; and
  • Identify important specification details relevant to institutional applications.

Moreover, due to the influence of the concrete substrate on the floor finish, the program will discuss the specification, testing and surface preparation standards and guidelines as well.

Finally, system installation procedures and details will be discussed to insure a problem-free project.

About the Presenter

The webinar will be presented by Tom Murphy, a floor-coating industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience. He works with the Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) to provide third-party training and certification for installation of seamless floor coatings. He also chairs and participates on several committees associated with the building guides and standards for concrete coatings, concrete repair, and surface preparation.

Tom Murphy

Tom Murphy, a floor-coating industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience, will present the webinar.

As an independent consultant to the concrete coating industry, Murphy assists material manufacturers in developing customer-oriented strategies. He also works to help specifiers and owners understand the merits of protecting concrete, and he helps contractors to provide superior installations.

Additional Webinars

Today’s webinar is the first of a three-webinar series on specifying coatings and other treatments for concrete floors.

The second presentation, “Specifying Concrete Floor Coating and Treatments for High Volume Retail Stores,” will be hosted April 28, and the final webinar, “Specifying Concrete Floor Coatings and Treatments for Aggressive Environments,” is scheduled for May 19.

Murphy will also present those webinars.
