Carl Elefante will serve as 2017 First Vice President and 2018 President for the American Institute of Architects.

Elefante previously served as director of AIA’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Council, from 2013-2015, and was president of AIA Maryland (2012) and AIA Potomac Valley (2009).

Elefante pursued the AIA presidency on a platform of “evolving value,” “innovative practice” and a “diverse workforce.”

“Design shapes human performance, productivity, wellbeing, and health,” he wrote in his candidate statement. “We don't have to seek relevance but seize it.”
