Nice ring to it: A New York company is repurposing London's classic red phone booths into mini work stations.

Bar Works Inc., a New York-based co-working company says it is launching “Pod Works” in London, Leeds and Edinburgh.

For just £19.99 (about $28) a month, those in need of flexible and tiny working locations can simply step inside one of the classic telephone boxes to enjoy Wifi, a printer/scanner, a 25-inch monitor, plug sockets, and even hot drinks.

Wifi, printer/scanner and a hot drink machine will be available in each of the Pods.

Bar Works CEO Jonathan Black pitches it this way: “Entrepreneurs and others constantly on the move need a convenient, affordable and private place to work.  Why should they sit in Starbucks or any other coffee bar when using one of our Pods will allow them to truly focus on their job before an important meeting or presentation at less than the price of two cups of coffee a week.”

The company says it plans to grow a network of Pods across the UK.

Given that the mobile phone has rendered the phone booth virtually useless, the concept of repurposing the structure is of interest.

Some have been transformed into solar-powered mobile charging stations and recently, a pop-up restaurant.
