A new sealant made to help accelerate construction project schedules and keep horizontal joints weathertight has been released by BASF.

MasterSeal SL 100 permits application to freshly placed (green) concrete as soon as 24 hours after forms are removed, compared to the 21 days recommended for most sealants, the company says. Enabling earlier access to jobsites allows contractors to save on labor costs, it explains.

The sealant is recommended for use on plaza decks, parking structures, balconies, industrial floors, driveways and garages, sidewalks, and numerous other horizontal joint applications.

Moreover, the sealant can also be placed on damp concrete, helping minimize the impact of rain on project schedules, according to the manufacturer.

Depending on weather conditions, the sealant can skin over between 5 to 45 minutes, which also helps shorten project schedules as this feature means it requires less time to dry and can reduce the accumulation of dust and debris, the company notes.

The sealant’s ability to adhere to substrates ranging from concrete and stone to metal means it can help simplify the sealant selection process, BASF says.

The company touts the sealant’s strong UV resistance, which contributes to a weather-tight seal that retains its color over time. The product can also be painted once it has cured, it adds.

Applications and Availability

Recommended uses include plaza decks, parking structures, balconies, industrial floors, driveways and garages, sidewalks, and numerous other horizontal joint applications.

Available in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, MasterSeal SL 100 is the newest product in the company’s MasterSeal line of sealants and waterproofing products, and part of BASF’s Master Builders Solutions brand.

It is available in easy-open, resealable packages, the company adds, helping to reduce material waste and labor.
