Seeking to expand its reach in one of the fastest growing markets in the world, BASF has opened its first production plant in Sri Lanka.

The new plant is located in the Lindel Estate at Sapugaskande, Sri Lanka, just outside of Colombo.

The German chemical giant says the facility produces standard and custom-made performance-based construction chemicals under the Master Builders Solution brand, including concrete admixtures. The location is accessible via the road network and is close to the harbor, making it easy to receive raw materials and deliver product to customers across the country, according to BASF.

The company says the facility will be supported by an office, warehouse and well-equipped laboratory to test formulations.

“Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing markets globally, and South Asia is a strategic growth engine of this market. With the new admixture plant in Colombo, we will now be able to rapidly supply our customers with admixtures for all cement and aggregate types, whether their construction projects are located in the capital or in remote areas,” said Himanshu Kapadia, vice president of market management, Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific, BASF, at the inauguration of the new plant Friday (Aug. 19).

BASF reports the local demand for construction chemicals is on the rise. The company has been actively providing the products to the South Asia markets for more than 20 years, through manufacturing facilities in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The Construction Chemicals division offers chemicals for new construction, maintenance, repair and renovation of structures. The portfolio includes waterproofing systems, sealants, concrete repair and protection systems, admixtures and performance flooring systems.
