Specialty chemical company Sika Corp. has announced the acquisition of FRC Industries, an Alabama-based producer of polypropylene fibers for concrete.

Established in 2001, FRC Industries is a family-owned operation serving the continental United States and Canada, according to the company. The company's plant is located in Tuscaloosa.

The acquisition of FRC Industries is Sika's second move within the concrete additives market.

Terms of the deal, announced Aug. 31, were not disclosed.

The move marks Sika’s second acquisition in 2016 within the concrete additives market. In April, the company acquired Los Angeles-based L.M. Scofield, producer of color additives and decorative products for concrete.

Strong Position

According to Sika, the acquisition positions the company as “the concrete additive supplier that can produce and supply a complete line of high quality produce including … high performance polycarboxylate water reducers, waterproofing admixtures, integral color and now micro synthetic, macro synthetic and steel concrete fibers.”

Christopher Ganz, president and CEO of Sika North America said, “The acquisition of FRC Industries is yet another strong and positive statement to the market and our customers.”
