PPG Architectural Coatings has updated its "Speedhide zero" interior latex line with a new sheen option, anti-microbial capability, and a more environmentally friendly formulation.

The low-odor, zero-VOC professional paint is designed for durability, ease of application, good hide and good coverage, the company says.

The reformulated Speedhide zero features anti-microbial properties in the topcoats to resist mold and mildew stains on paint film, PPG says.

The revamped Speedhide zero:

  • Features a new satin sheen option;
  • Meets the MPI Institutional Low Odor/VOC categories;
  • Contains no formaldehyde, crystalline silica or ethylene glycol;
  • Includes anti-microbial properties in topcoats to resist mold and mildew stains; and
  • Features improved scrub, stain and burnish resistance.

Other Features, Applications

The formulation also meets LEED VOC requirements and can help earn LEED 2009 credits, according to PPG.

The paint is recommended for use on concrete, gypsum wallboard-drywall, concrete masonry block, plaster, ferrous metal and wood.

Speedhide zero is available in flat, eggshell, satin and semi-gloss, as well as a sealer/primer at PPG Pittsburgh Paints and PPG Porter Paints retail locations and independent dealers nationwide.

The Pittsburgh, PA-based coating maker notes that while the paint line is 0 g/L VOC, "colorants added to the base paint may increase VOC levels significantly, depending on the color selected."
