Question posted - June 19 to June 25, 2016:

Animal fat in slaughterhouses often penetrates concrete surfaces. If the fat is not removed before the concrete is coated, the fat can cause the coating to fail. How do you identify and remove the contamination before coating the concrete?

You should have thought about this when the facility was built. There is a superior coating [StarGard) for the construction coating specification. Fresh animal grease will fight any coating on concrete. Good luck or establish a daily cleaning process with hot water.

I have always preferred the boring of cores and then examinations in lab. One needs to find out how deep the contamination goes, so the remedy of upper-layer removal from, say, shot blasting can be gauged correctly. And other devices may be needed for top layer removal if the penetration is deep. Fats, greases, oils and various fluids can be present that need removal of the top layer or else the floor coating system once applied may fail prematurely.
